UW-Fond du Lac Music
Department presents fall concert on Nov. 24
Fond du Lac, Wis. – The University of
Wisconsin-Fond du Lac
Music
Department’s Fall Concert will be held at 7
p.m. on Nov. 24 in the Prairie Theater, 400
University Dr. The public is invited to attend
and admission to the concert is free.
The evening will feature the UW-Fond du Lac
Chorus and U-FiDeLity, UW-Fond du Lac’s vocal
jazz ensemble, along with the premiere
performances of the UW-Fond du Lac Community
Band and UW-Fond du Lac instrumental Jazz
Ensemble.
The 40-voice mixed chorus under the direction
of UW-Fond du Lac Music Professor and Associate
Dean Patricia
Eby, accompanied by Melissa Martiros, will
be performing music depicting America.
“With all of the country’s eyes on the
election, it seemed like the right time to sing
about America’s history, people, and dreams,”
said Eby.
Included in the selections will be a
spiritual by Dawson, an English Sea Shanty
arranged by American composers Alice Parker and
Robert Shaw, a South American samba, and a piece
from the Psalm-Singer’s Amusement by American
composer William Billings.
U-FiDeLity, under the direction of Eby, will
perform swing, “I Hadn’t Anyone ‘Til You”;
samba, “James” by Pat Methaney; jazz ballad
“Soon It’s Gonna Rain” from The Fantasticks; and
“Telephone Talking” made famous by The Real
Group. The singers will be joined by Paul
Thompson on bass and Mark Thompson on drums with
Eby on keyboard. Soloists include Jennifer Bell
and Josh Halbur.
The concert will feature the premiere
performance by the newly formed UW-Fond du Lac
instrumental Jazz Ensemble under the direction
of Music Professor
Dan Rager
performing “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be,”
“Latin Quarter,” “Afterglow” by Dean Sorenson
featuring Brandon Burnard on alto sax, and
closing with a Clifford Brown tune “The Blues
Walk.”
Another premiere performance will be the
UW-Fond du Lac Community Band under the
direction of Rager performing “Sea Songs” by
Ralph Vaughan Williams and closing with
“Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak. The
Community Band will feature a French horn
quartet of Stephen Steffes, Dan Swast, Will
Durfee, and Zach Weir performing two pieces
arranged by Natalya Rager.
