UW-Fond du Lac Music Department presents fall concert on Nov. 24

Fond du Lac, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Music Department’s Fall Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 24 in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr. The public is invited to attend and admission to the concert is free.

The evening will feature the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus and U-FiDeLity, UW-Fond du Lac’s vocal jazz ensemble, along with the premiere performances of the UW-Fond du Lac Community Band and UW-Fond du Lac instrumental Jazz Ensemble.

The 40-voice mixed chorus under the direction of UW-Fond du Lac Music Professor and Associate Dean Patricia Eby, accompanied by Melissa Martiros, will be performing music depicting America.

“With all of the country’s eyes on the election, it seemed like the right time to sing about America’s history, people, and dreams,” said Eby.

Included in the selections will be a spiritual by Dawson, an English Sea Shanty arranged by American composers Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, a South American samba, and a piece from the Psalm-Singer’s Amusement by American composer William Billings.

U-FiDeLity, under the direction of Eby, will perform swing, “I Hadn’t Anyone ‘Til You”; samba, “James” by Pat Methaney; jazz ballad “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” from The Fantasticks; and “Telephone Talking” made famous by The Real Group. The singers will be joined by Paul Thompson on bass and Mark Thompson on drums with Eby on keyboard. Soloists include Jennifer Bell and Josh Halbur.

The concert will feature the premiere performance by the newly formed UW-Fond du Lac instrumental Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Music Professor Dan Rager performing “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be,” “Latin Quarter,” “Afterglow” by Dean Sorenson featuring Brandon Burnard on alto sax, and closing with a Clifford Brown tune “The Blues Walk.”

Another premiere performance will be the UW-Fond du Lac Community Band under the direction of Rager performing “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and closing with “Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak. The Community Band will feature a French horn quartet of Stephen Steffes, Dan Swast, Will Durfee, and Zach Weir performing two pieces arranged by Natalya Rager.

Visitors attending the concert should use the east parking lot and the main entrance. For more information, contact UW-Fond du Lac at (920) 929-1100.
