UW-Fond du Lac Multicultural Club presents "Growing up in Gaza"

Posted 11/4/2009-The UW-Fond du Lac Multicultural Club has invited Mr. Mohammad Hamad to share his personal story of how he and his family were affected by the Israeli occupation of Gaza and how the current situation there still impacts them today during a special presentation at noon on Thursday, Nov. 12 in room S-238 in the Science Building.

Mohammad Hamad, a mechanical engineer working with a consulting firm in Sheboygan County, was born and raised on a farm in a village in Northern Gaza called Beit Hanoun. As a young child growing up, he and his friends frequently faced humiliation from the Israeli Occupiers.

In May 2000, Mohammed traveled to the U.S. to finish his master’s in mechanical engineering at Western Michigan University. Later that year in September, the Second Intifada broke out. Due to the blockades, Mohammed has not been able to return to his home where his family remains. Mohammed’s family has been directly affected by the blockades and the recent attacks within the last two and a half years.

Mohammed raises awareness of the difficultly and hardships the people of Palestine face on a daily basis. He currently gives talks at universities and high schools throughout Wisconsin.
