UW-Fond du Lac Holiday Concert set for Dec. 19

Fond du Lac, Wis. –The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Music Department invites the community to their annual Holiday Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 19 in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Drive.

Performing at the concert will be the Fond du Lac Chamber Singers, the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus, and the vocal jazz ensemble U-FiDeLity, directed by Patricia Eby, associate dean and music professor, and accompanied by Melissa Martiros, music lecturer.

The evening will be a multi-sensory experience celebrating the holiday season from the medieval ages to present day. As the concert begins, a 13th century chant will be sung from the balcony at the rear of the Prairie Theater while images of stained glass and other medieval and Renaissance art works are projected onto three large screens at the front of the theater.

While 13th through 17th century music is performed, the art works will depict scenes of angels, shepherds, Mary, the Nativity and the Star of Bethlehem.

The second half of the program will feature traditional carols and familiar secular holiday music including “I Wonder As I Wander” with soloist Stephen Steffes, the familiar “Christmas Time is Here” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” sung by U-FiDeLity, and Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”

The audience will be invited to sing traditional carols during the program and to join community members and performers for refreshments in the University Center Commons after the concert.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for students in advance. UW-Fond du Lac students are admitted free with student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the UW-Fond du Lac business office (Mon.- Fri., 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) or by phone at (920) 929-1111. Tickets purchased at the door are $2 more.
