“Of Course and Never” art
exhibit held at UW-Fond du Lac
3/4/2009 - UW-Fond du Lac will host an
exhibition entitled “Of Course and Never” by
Thomas Berenz, March 4 thru April 5 in the
Visual Arts Gallery, 400 University Dr., Fond du
Lac. The public is invited to an opening
reception, 5-8 pm on March 4.
Working from found photographs of natural
disasters, Berenz creates paintings that evoke
the sensationalism and commoditization of images
in our visual culture.
“I am intrigued by the wonder of the natural
environment and disturbed by its devastation…My
work is deeply rooted in the history and
language of the painting. Devastation,
heartache, and aftermath provide the fuel for
the painting and help to place them in a
specific cultural moment in time,” Berenz says
in his artist’s statement.
Berenz was born in Fond du Lac and is
currently an adjunct professor at UW-Oshkosh and
Ripon College. He was recently featured in “New
American Paintings,” a nationally renowned
publication showcasing America’s rising art
stars, and has shown his work extensively
throughout the Midwest.
The Visual Arts Gallery will be open 9 a.m.-
4 p.m. Monday through Thursday for this
exhibition.
