UW-Fond du Lac Music
Department to present Pops Concert on April
24
Posted 4/14/2009. –A concert of historically
popular composers and compositions will be
presented by the
music
department at the University of
Wisconsin-Fond du Lac at 7:30 p.m. on Apr. 24 in
the Prairie Theater, 400 University Drive.
In additional to performances by several
UW-Fond du Lac music ensembles, the concert will
also feature the guest appearance of the Fond du
Lac Children’s Chorale under the direction of
Kris McLain. The voices of 42 children will join
the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus in several selections
including folk songs arranged by Linda Spevacek
and a beautiful setting of “Kum Ba Ya” by Joel
Raney. The choruses will be accompanied by
UW-Fond du Lac lecturer Melissa Martiros and
Fond du Lac Children’s Chorale accompanist Sara
Roltgen.
Opening the program will be the newly-formed
Community Band under the baton of
Dan Rager,
UW-Fond du Lac music professor, performing
selections by Rimsky-Korsakov, Strauss and
Sousa. Natalya Rager, French horn, will be a
featured soloist in “Concerto for F Horn and
Band” dedicated to the memory of Sergey
Medvedeva. The program will also include
“Serenata for marimba duet” performed by Mark
Thompson, UW-Fond du Lac student, and Scott
Elford, UW-Fond du Lac percussion instructor.
The second half of the evening will feature
the UW-Fond du Lac choral ensembles under the
direction of
Patricia Eby, UW-Fond du Lac music professor
and associate campus dean. The UW-Fond du Lac
Chorus will perform familiar works by Bach,
Beethoven, Bernstein, Copeland and Mozart.
Soloists for “Tantum Ergo” by Mozart are
Stephanie Leege-Wesenberg, Kevin Flood, Lee
Xiong and Cathy Weber. The Fond du Lac Chamber
Singers will join the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus in a
medley of tunes by Irving Berlin.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for
students. UW-Fond du Lac students are admitted
free with student ID. Tickets can be purchased
