UW-Fond du Lac presents
music student recital on May 8
5/4/2009 – Original composition and solo
works by University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac
music
students will be performed at a special
recital to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8
in the
Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr. The
public is welcome to attend this free event.
The evening will include solo performances by
applied music students Mike Toshner on guitar
(student of Mike Bautz); Jennifer Bell, Andy
Senecal, Joe Birschbach and Catherine Weber
(voice students of Grace Jones), accompanied by
UW-Fond du Lac music lecturer Melissa Martiros;
Mark Thompson (student of Scott Elford),
percussion; Jennifer Jacobs and Jennifer Bell
(students of Helene Schrankler) on piano; and
Jenny Jacobs (student of Steve Schani) on viola.
New to the program is a chamber music
component coached by Martiros for soprano, viola
and piano. They will perform “My Garden” by
Elizabeth Haskins.
The program will include original
compositions by students enrolled in the Music
Theory II course taught by UW-Fond du Lac Music
Professor
Dan Rager.
“The original composition is a class
assignment in which the students apply
theoretical knowledge to performance practice,”
said Patricia
Eby, UW-Fond du Lac music professor and
associate dean. “Students compose the pieces
following common practice period composition
guidelines, create a musical score using the
computer program ‘Finale’ and find musicians who
will perform the pieces and rehearse with the
ensemble.”
Original compositions include “New Moon” by
Jennifer Bell; “The Groove” by Mike Toshner;
“Fudgeadelic” by Nathan Schultz; “The Moody
Waltz” by Jon Scott’ and “Little Angel Don’t You
Cry” by Cathy Weber.
