The UW-Fond du Lac music program
offers quality music instruction
to those interested in a major
or minor in music, as well as
the general student.
UW-Fond du
Lac offers four semesters of music theory
and aural skills – certainly the core of any
music program. The small classes and
individual attention make it possible for
each student’s composition to be performed
in recital.
Music
Appreciation offered on a rotating schedule
include:
Music Literature and Appreciation, History
of Rock and Roll, World Music and World
Regional Geography, and Jazz History.
The Music
Department has also been a leader in the
Study Abroad Program. Offered in
conjunction with
UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education,
students and community members had the
opportunity to study the Roots of Western
Music and travel to Italy in January 2005
and a “British Invasion” course with travel
to London and Liverpool is planned for
January 2010.
The UW-Fond
du Lac music program also offers private
lessons to music majors and minors. Our
applied faculty currently includes:
-
Grace
Jones, voice
-
Helene
Schrankler, piano
-
Melissa
Martiros, class piano
-
Brian
Lydeen, woodwinds
-
Dan Rager,
brass
-
Scott

-
John

-

The life of
the music program is contained in the
performing ensembles Concerts are performed
3-4 times each semester by various
ensembles. A department concert is performed
each semester in addition to the annual
Holiday Concert in December, A Winter
Evening of Jazz in February and a Celtic
Dinner Show in March.
Vocal
ensembles include the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus
directed by Patricia Eby; Fond du Lac
Chamber Singers, which combines community
singers and students, directed by Patricia
Eby; and U-FiDeLity, a vocal jazz ensemble,
directed by Patricia Eby, associate campus
dean and music professor.
Instrumental
ensembles include College Jazz Ensemble,
directed by
Dan
Rager; Community Orchestra, directed by
David Thompson; UW-Fond du Lac Community
Band, directed by Dan Rager.
The
Collegiate Wind Ensemble is the unique
combination of students from UW-Fond du Lac
and Marian College, rehearsing on the UW
campus and directed by Marian College
faculty member Brian Lydeen. Opportunities
also exist for small instrumental ensemble
playing.
UW-Fond du
Lac Music Department is the home of the
Suzuki Talent Education Program coordinated
through UW-Fond du Lac Continuing Education
Department.
